Beavertail trucks draw their name from the several traits they shares in common with the animal of the same name. Namely, both possess a wide, flat, sloping tail that drops off toward the ground. Unlike the animal, beavertail trucks typically integrate twin ramps near the vehicle’s rear that the operator manually or hydraulically engages, depending on the model.
Available in various cab sizes, truck body lengths, and chassis types, beavertail truck models are aimed at construction, transportation, delivery, and other sectors. Manufacturers of beavertail trucks include Bedford, DAF, ERF, HINO, Isuzu, IVECO, MAN, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi Fuso, Renault, Scania, and Volvo.
Some beavertail models may include a winch or a crane mounted to the trailer bed to enable loading and unloading materials being hauled on the truck’s bed, which might be constructed of wood, steel, aluminum, or another surface. Combined, these components make it possible for one operator to load and unload cargo, including automobiles, construction equipment, and supplies, without a forklift or other equipment required.
