MAN TGM Overview

There are a few used examples available - but the model was only launched back in 2005, so operators looking for an older, second hand MAN 18 tonners will need to look at the previous model, the MAN M2000. Launched at Euro 4, there are no Euro 3 versions of the MAN TGM so if you can pick one up then you will be allowed inside the M25's Low emission zone.

Euro 6 Model MAN TGM Details

The MAN TGM is a truck with many qualities. It is able to perform well both on its own and also when pulling a trailer. Regardless of the configuration, however, the most outstanding aspects of the MAN TGM are its superb road manners, huge payload and class-leading volume capacity.

    Interior Upgrades

The new MAN TGM is also designed with an upgraded interior. Among the key features of the superb cab are the clarity of its information displays and the quality of its internal surfaces. The inspiration comes from the best prestige cars and touches like satin chrome handles, soft-touch textured plastics and brushed aluminium trim are certainly reminiscent of the most luxurious saloons. The dash has been revised, too, and is now clearer and less cluttered. Lots of bins provide ample storage, and an air-sprung seat and air conditioning make for a comfortable environment. The seat also has heating, shoulder adjustment and ventilation to ensure that the level of driver comfort is as high as it can possibly be.

The MAN TGM has been carefully built to offer a lightweight construction. This allows the truck to carry a heavier payload. The frame is deigned to be body-friendly, which maximises the opportunities for third-party specialists to create niche trucks. The common rail diesel engines, meanwhile, offer class-leading fuel economy and low emissions.

    MAN TGM Euro 6 Engines

The distribution sector offers particular challenges, and this is where the MAN TGM excels. For example, the common rail engine delivers a torque curve that is ideal for urban driving conditions, resulting in fewer gear changes and hence better fuel economy and reduced driver fatigue. These modern D08 series common rail engines are Euro 6 compliant and come in power ratings from 250hp to 340hp. The 6.9 litre power plants are excellent for the multiple starts common in short-haul duties but are also flexible and powerful enough to offer smooth driving on longer motorway routes. The frame is particularly lightweight but still robust, which brings excellent stability with lower fuel consumption and better payloads.

Safety is also a key feature of the MAN TGM. To aid in this regard, the trucks come with Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), which has been designed to reduce impacts in the most common rear-end collisions - shunting in motorway queues. The EBA system is able to sense slow-moving or stationary objects in front of the truck, and the system will apply the brakes if the driver does not respond to the hazard. The trucks also come with a lane-departure warning designed to keep the MAN TGM on the straight and narrow even when the driver fails to notice a deviation from the desired lane.

Almost any operator can take advantage of the new MAN TGM, thanks to the versatile chassis construction. A useful hole pattern and flat top surface make it far easier for after-market specialists to create a whole host of body types. Without the need for drilling, the danger of corrosion is minimised and the custom trucks can enjoy a longer life.
