Mercedes Arocs - An Overview
With the Mercedes-Benz Arocs range of trucks, you can expect to find the kind of hard-wearing build quality required of commercial vehicles destined for use in the construction industry. As with most products from this manufacturer, the Arocs has been designed with a forward-thinking attitude, which means that even used models can feel ahead of their time.
Various body types are available, from 18-tonne skip loaders to 32-tonne cement mixers, meaning the Arocs is clearly well equipped to handle a number of tasks across a site. It is also a comfortable and composed platform for material transport on public roads while still having impressive credentials for performance on less consistent surfaces.
Choice of Engines
A selection of four different engines and an even broader choice of power outputs can be configured for the newer Arocs trucks, with even the most basic model offering 238hp and plenty of torque at low revs.
The largest of the range can feature a 625hp power plant, and in their current incarnation all of these engines are up to the standard of the Euro 6 emissions regulations. This means that compared with older models you can achieve a 4% reduction in fuel consumption on average. Mercedes-Benz designs these engines not only for short-term benefits, but with the long-term life cycle of the Arocs in mind. That means things such as maintenance costs are kept to a minimum, making them a worthy second-hand purchase for every operator.
Choice of Axle Configuration
Various axle configurations also define this range, with off-road performance given extra attention thanks to 4x4 as well as 8x8 configurations on the hardiest of the Arocs tippers. Ground clearance is also excellent, keeping the underside of the chassis safe from rocks and rubble. The chassis itself is built using steel for strength and rigidity while still offering enough flexibility to cope with the bumps and jolts it will experience on a regular basis. Leaf spring steel suspension is also present on many models, including the latest iterations, to allow for that essential durability of the construction-focused Arocs which buyers are sure to be seeking.
For drivers of the Arocs range, especially those who are able to benefit from the newer models introduced by Mercedes-Benz in the recent past, there are various systems designed to make their jobs a little less taxing. This includes things such as proximity monitoring and control capabilities, allowing the trucks to keep a safe distance from other vehicles on the road automatically. This helps to cut down on collisions while also automating the process of getting the truck moving again once congestion has eased. In-cab air bags across four different types of cab in total, along with things like lane-keeping assist and stability control, mean that the driver of a used Mercedes-Benz Arocs will be more confident, composed and comfortable than ever.
