    The Atego Box Vans from Mercedes occupy the lighter, more compact end of the box van market, with models ranging from 7.5 tonnes to 18 tonnes in terms of operating weight before load capacity is taken into account. And you will need to look at the capacity not only of the truck as a whole, but also that of the tail lift itself to assess how efficiently it will be able to handle your intended cargo.

    More affordable box trucks will come with spring suspension, while a smoother ride can be achieved using the air suspension at the front and rear on more advanced models, at the expensive of potentially higher maintenance costs.

    There are also differences in the shape of the box body itself, both as a result of the internal components and also the design enhancements that Mercedes-Benz has produced over the years. Modern versions of the Atego with more aerodynamic body constructions are available, which in addition to deflectors mounted on the cab allow the vehicle to cut through the air more effectively and facilitate a reduction in fuel costs

    Axor Discontinued - Now Antos Box Vans

    Prior to 2014, larger Mercedes-Benz box trucks tend to fall into the Axor range, with operating weights of 26 tonnes and body lengths of 30 feet common for this type of vehicle. As well as day cabs with a standard three-seat configuration, you will encounter models which feature crew cabs to allow for even more passengers to be accommodated on board.

    This makes them suitable for removal work and other applications which involve more employees getting involved.  The Axor range is being replaced by the new, modern looking Antos range for box vans up to 26 tonnes GVW.

    Standard box truck bodies with space in the rear for various types of cargo are built by Mercedes-Benz to be versatile and resilient as well as easy to maintain. There are also specialised units which allow for refrigerated cargo to be transported, so look out for specific details about the features offered by used models to ensure that you are searching in the right area. Even things such as the presence of barn-door-style access at the rear, or a roller shutter, may influence your decision.
