As the name indicates, new and used brick carrier trucks from such manufacturers as DAF, HINO, IVECO, MAN, Mercedes-Benz, Renault, Scania, and Volvo are designed and constructed to transport primarily brick stacks in bulk. Brick carrier trucks are also used to transport building stones, waste, and other materials used in construction, landscaping, utility, housing, and other sectors.

In addition to a hydraulically controlled rear- or front-mounted crane from such manufacturers as Atlas and Fassi that may vary in length, brick carrier trucks typically feature a flatbed trailer that the crane is mounted to, as well as hydraulically controlled stabilizing legs that combat tipping and a cab that may or may not include a day sleeper.

The crane usually includes a brick stack grapple that uses a hydraulic squeeze- or scissor-type grabbing mechanism and that can lift several tonnes depending on the model. Although usually not included, brick carrier trucks may also integrate or allow for the use of cargo straps around the trailer’s bed to better secure the materials being hauled.
