Minibuses

At the smaller end of the scale, a minibus will offer around 12 to 14 interior seats, with the option to reconfigure these if necessary to account for different uses. Storage space in the ceiling and at the rear should be checked for wear and tear. The minibus definition is elastic enough to encompass slightly larger vehicles as well, with up to 24 seats available on some used examples.

At this point, they will not be adapted SWB or LWB vans, but vehicles designed specifically for passenger transport. Hydraulically operated doors that allow people on and off, as well as a suspension set-up which permits the lowering of the vehicle for ease of access, may be present and should be scrutinised to ensure that they are functioning as expected.

Buses which are technically coaches fall into yet a different sub-category within this range of vehicles, featuring seats that are much more comfortable, ensuring that they are suitable for passengers over longer distances. Overhead storage bins, reading lights, air-conditioning units and other small but crucial components may be present. There can even be additional facilities on board, including toilet cubicles, water dispensers and much more, depending on the model and the extent of your budget.
