The LF45 - commonly known just as the 45 - is the smallest truck still produced by DAF. Easy to manoeuvre; and still robust enough to deliver up to 21 tonnes; the 45 is obviously best suited to shorter journeys but is still very comfortable and reliable. The 45 is also very low maintenance, with extended oil drain intervals of up to 34,000 miles, and even a load-sensing brake regulator to reduce strain.

Easy access is probably the 45's greatest advantage. Getting in and out of the cab is quick and painless, and the truck is extremely straightforward to drive once you're in. Ideal for city transportation, the fact that it's surprisingly comfortable means that it can be applied for longer distances if needs be (for more regular long haulage operations the CF series is ideal, and the CF75 is probably the most flexible among DAF's trucks).

From the end of 2014, the LF45 was supercedes by DAF's new Euro 6 range, called simply the DAF LF.  Out went the 45 and the 55 and in came simply the power output.

DAF's LF45 is a bestseller in the UK, and this means that there's always a large selection of 45s for sale on TruckLocator.co.uk. As with all trucks produced by the PACCAR owned company, the LF45 is very customisable, so it's easy to find the right second hand truck to meet a specific need.

The ‘45' relates to the size of the engine - 4.5 litres. The engines in the LF series are generally regarded to be some of the best in their class, and it's unlikely that you'll be able to find more economical vehicles of a similar size, which means that the 45 is probably the best truck on the market for drivers making a lot of short trips.

The LF is available as a rigid vehicle or as a tractor, and with either a day or sleeper cab.

As you might imagine from the size of the truck the sleepers aren't the most spacious, so for drivers making regular overnight stops the CF series is leagues ahead.

The 45 isn't the best over long distances either, so there shouldn't be too much of a need to get a sleeper cab - but DAF have at least made the best of the space they've got, so it's not unbearable to kip inside.
