Collins Earthworks Adds Volvo FM-330 Rigid To Its Sweeper Fleet

Collins Earthworks, based in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, recently added a new Volvo FM-330 4x2 rigid sweeper truck to its fleet. The company is no stranger to the brand, as it currently owns seven Volvo FE road sweeper models, a Volvo FH16-750 tractor unit it purchased in 2018, and several other vehicles. The new truck sports a Globetrotter Cab, a Euro 6 D11K engine that produces 330 horsepower and 1,600 newton-metres of torque, and a 12-speed I-Shift automated mechanical transmission. Collins opted for the Drive Package Plus and 1 Bed Resting add-ons, as well.

“We required a larger chassis for the Stocks Sweeper S8400 body, so it was a logical decision to move up to a Volvo FM rigid,” says Andy Jinks, transport workshop manager at Collins Earthworks. “We already operate seven FE road sweeper vehicles and have another two in build, so we know the Volvo product range really well. The new FM sweeper came with a cab-coloured bumper, mirrors, step and visor, in addition to Alcoa Dura-Bright EVO alloy wheels, so it really looks the part in our company livery.”

    Ready For Work

Collins Earthworks’ Volvo FM-330 is outfitted with a Stocks Sweepers S8400 sweeper body, which is well-suited for heavy-duty operations. It features a JCB auxiliary engine, a 3,000-litre clean water tank, and a sweeping path of 3,650 millimetres. Like most of its other trucks, Collins plans to run its new FM for five years and will hold to the firm’s “one driver, one truck policy,” which helps it maintain the “fleet’s signature high vehicle presentation standards.”
