Butcombe Brewery, which operates more than 100 pubs, bars, and inns in South West England, recently acquired two new Volvo rigid curtainsider trucks (an FE 6x2 and an FL 4x2) as part of its fleet upgrade, bringing the total number of Volvos in the 18-vehicle fleet to seven. The new trucks are decked out in Butcombe’s black livery with colourful curtainside branding for its Goram Zero and Tall Tales beers. They will deliver to pubs and distribution centres in the south of England five days a week and log around 70,000 miles (112,650 kilometres) a year.

“For our newest rigids, our drivers have already commented on how enjoyable and comfortable the ride is, as well as how their interiors are a step up on what they were driving previously,” says Butcombe Brewery Transport Manager Sam Jennings. “We’re definitely looking forward to welcoming more Volvos into the business in the near future.”

    Volvo FE & FL Trucks

The Volvo FE is powered by a 320-horsepower (235-kilowatt) D8K Euro 6 engine with an automated 12-speed I-Shift transmission. The Volvo FL is powered by a 240-HP (176-kW) D5K engine with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Each truck has a day cab with a DAB radio and suspended and heated driver’s seats with rear air suspension on the FL and full air suspension for the FE.

Butcombe chose the Drive package for both trucks to add cab climate control and cruise control and the Volvo Airflow package, which adds roof and side deflectors and an exterior sun visor to improve aerodynamics. The trucks have electrically heated and operated rearview mirrors and an additional factory-fitted lower kerbside passenger door window to improve visibility and safety.

Forward Collision Warning with Advanced Emergency Braking and Lane Departure Warning systems further enhance safety. External radar and cameras work with the driver support systems to prevent collisions.
