Wakefield-based skip hire and waste management provider Maia Waste recently acquired a new Volvo FH Aero 8x4 rigid with hookloader bodywork, moving the number of Volvos to eight out of 12 lorries in the fleet. Maia Waste operates seven days a week throughout Wakefield, Barnsley, and Rotherham, providing commercial and domestic skip, grab, and roll-on, roll-off hire. The new FH Aero was selected for its build quality and is expected to log up to 80,000 kilometres (49,700 miles) per year.

“Residual value is a big part of our decision-making process, and Volvo consistently holds its own in that area,” says Maia Waste’s Managing Director, Paul Noble. “When we’re planning fleet investments over a 10-year period, we need to know the vehicles will retain value and remain viable for resale or trade-in. Volvo gives us that confidence.

“It’s not just about the numbers, either. The build quality and durability of Volvo trucks mean they stay in good condition longer, which helps us maintain a high standard across the fleet. That kind of consistency is hard to find, and it’s one of the main reasons we keep coming back to them.”

    Built For Power & Performance

The FH Aero is fitted with a Hiab Multilift hook loader and is powered by a 540-horsepower (397-kilowatt) Volvo D13K Euro 6 engine with a maximum torque of 2,600 newton-metres (1,918 pounds-foot) between 1,000 and 1,450 rpm. It is equipped with Volvo’s 12-speed I-Shift automated transmission with additional construction software for off-road applications and the Camera Monitoring System, which replaces traditional exterior mirrors to improve the driver’s view, even in challenging conditions such as rain or tunnels.

Drivers also benefit from leather-upholstered seats with dual armrests and an adjustable steering wheel. The Lane Departure Warning and Dynamic Steering systems help improve safety.
