Wordsworth Excavations, a Barnsley-based specialist in bulk excavation and industrial projects, recently expanded its heavy-haulage capabilities with a new Renault Trucks T High 6x2 tractor unit. The 65-tonne (71.6-U.S.-ton) T High is the first Renault truck in the company’s fleet of 55 lorries that move plant to and from major construction and industrial sites throughout the UK.

“We needed another truck to increase our internal haulage capacity, moving plant between sites nationwide,” says Craig Lofthouse, plant manager at Wordsworth Excavation. “I wanted something that could handle both 65-tonne low-loader work and tipping duties when required. The T High offered that flexibility plus an extra 5-tonne capacity, which gives us a real advantage.”

    Reliable Transport

Wordsworth Excavations operates over 100 pieces of plant across a variety of projects. The company manages its own logistics to ensure the right equipment is in the right place at the right time—the T High helps make that possible.

“With the nature of our work, we need total reliability—when a piece of kit is needed on site, it has to be there on time. Having our own trucks gives us that assurance,” explains Lofthouse.

    Power & Comfort

The T High offers the power to meet demanding operations and the comfort drivers need for assignments that can last a week at a time. “The pulling power is superb,” says Lofthouse. “Our driver couldn’t believe how well it climbs hills compared to previous trucks.”

The truck is equipped with a Renault 13-litre DTI engine, an Optidriver automated gearbox, and Binotto tipping gear, enabling the truck to perform low-loader and tipping work. The high sleeper cab has a 2-metre height, a flat floor, heated and ventilated leather seats, a refrigerator, a microwave, a multimedia touchscreen, a TV, and automatic climate control. The bunk is 2,009 millimetres (79 inches) long and 680 mm (26.7 in.) wide, with the option to extend by 120 mm (4.7 in.).

To improve safety, the T High has advanced vision systems, driver fatigue detection and lane departure warning systems, and automatic emergency braking.
