Hammond Transport, a haulage specialist based in Billericay, Essex, recently added a new MAN 26.510 TGX 6x2 tractor unit to its fleet. The New Generation MAN TGX is powered by a 12.4-litre, 503-horspower (375-kilowatt), Euro 6 engine, and Hammond says that so far the new truck’s driver is getting 11.2 miles per gallon (4.8 kilometres per litre).

The TGX has a redesigned windscreen and grille as well as new bumpers, lights, and corner and side panels, the latter of which lower the truck’s aerodynamic drag. The dash and mirrors were also adjusted to improve visibility, and a new step layout makes it easier and safer to get into and out of the cab. Other exterior features include LED light bars and Alcoa Dura-Bright alloy wheels. The TGX sports Hammond’s blue and silver livery with matching bumpers, step panels, and other components.

The interior features an adjustable multifunction steering wheel, Alcantara upholstery, LED lighting throughout, DAB radio, a cold foam comfort mattress, and a refrigerator located beneath the bunk. There is also a 12.3-inch HD display and infotainment system complete with satellite navigation and Bluetooth support. The vehicle is particularly special because Hammond Transport ordered it before production started, making it one of only 50 TGXs in the United Kingdom that will have a “UK 1st Edition” badge.

    Standout Safety Features

The MAN TGX comes with a wide range of safety features as standard, including Lane Change Support, Emergency Brake Assist, Turn Assist, Lane Return Assist, and adaptive cruise control with a Stop&Go function. Other examples include MAN AttentionGuard (helps keep the driver’s eyes on the road), automatic high-beam headlights, a driver side airbag, and a seat belt with a tensioner system.

Hammond’s new TGX is one of only 50 in the UK that will features a special “UK 1st Edition” badge inside its redesigned cab, which provides improved aerodynamics and visibility, among other benefits. (Photo courtesy of MAN.)

“Safety is an important aspect across the Hammond Transport business and we prioritise the safety of our staff at all times,” says Managing Director Terry Hammond. “MAN has clearly taken a market-leading stance with safety, both in terms of standard and optional equipment, as our new flagship is laden with advanced features. As an operator, knowing that both our drivers and third-party road users are safe is a huge comfort.”

    Longtime Customer

“We’ve been running MAN trucks since 1992 and have stuck with them ever since,” Hammond says. “They offer outstanding reliability, competitive running costs, good value for money, and high levels of comfort. MAN trucks are popular with our drivers, and that’s certainly true of our latest flagship new generation TGX.”
