Waste and resource management company RiverRidge recently acquired a Renault Trucks E-Tech D Wide 4x2 with Hyva skip loader equipment. The E-Tech D Wide is the first fully electric skip lift vehicle not only for RiverRidge but also for all of Northern Ireland. The truck is part of the company’s transition to a fleet of zero-carbon engines in the next 15 years to achieve a 75% reduction in the carbon footprint of its transport services.

    Committed To Cutting Carbon

Carbon reduction isn’t a new goal for RiverRidge. Since the company started in 2011, it has reduced the carbon footprint of the disposal of a tonne of household waste by 69% through innovative techniques and processes in the waste stream. RiverRidge also developed a large-scale waste-to-energy facility in the Belfast Harbour Estate.

The E-Tech will operate in the Belfast area and will be used on a service contract with international shipbuilder and defence contractor Harland & Wolff. Additional vehicles are expected to follow in the coming years.

“The addition of this vehicle to our fleet is one of a number of meaningful steps that the company is taking to meet the commitments we have made to all our stakeholders about reducing the carbon footprint of our collection services,” says RiverRidge Group Transport Director Stephen Thompson.

About The Renault E-Tech D Wide

The E-Tech D Wide comes in 4x2 and 6x2 rigid options and is driven by two electric motors that produce 260 continuous kilowatts (350 horsepower) and 370 kW (500 HP) of maximum power. The batteries recharge fully in under two hours with a fast charge or overnight with a conventional industrial outlet. The E-Tech D Wide has a load capacity of 8.75 tonnes (9.64 U.S. tons).

Renault outfits the truck with the latest safety features, including radar and cameras to detect and alert the driver to objects and road users around the E-Tech, an automatic headlamp switch to improve visibility, and an optional vision door on the passenger side.
