North West Timber Treatments Adds DAF CF 480 Tridem Rigid Crane Truck To Fleet

North West Timber Treatments recently bolstered its fleet of 6x2 trucks through the addition of a new DAF CF 480 with an FAQ tridem axle configuration and are impressed with the results so far. (Photo courtesy of DAF.)

Established in 1989, North West Timber Treatments (NWTT) is a leading regional supplier of timber and building materials with an 11-acre site in Ashton-in-Makerfield and satellite depots in Manchester, St. Helens, Skelmersdale, and Rossendale. Recently, the company added a new, eight-wheel DAF CF 480 with FAQ tridem axle configuration to its fleet of rigid 6x2 delivery trucks. The DAF-heavy fleet makes deliveries across Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, and Lancashire.

    The CF 480 Up Close

NWTT’s work often requires fully laden trucks to operate over unprepared surfaces, and so far the company says their DAF CF has proven up to the task. NWTT’s drivers have also been impressed with the truck, reporting exceptional fuel economy and appreciation for its spacious, well-equipped cab.

The DAF CF has a PACCAR MX-13 engine and is fitted with Hiab crane and a specialist body designed by Forshaw Engineering. A deciding factor in the purchase of the CF was the enhanced manoeuvrability with DAF’s FAQ 8x2 axle configuration. The ‘steer-steer-drive-steer’ tridem arrangement enables drivers to access customer locations, even when space is restricted and movement difficult. The new eight-wheeler can match the firm’s 6x2 rigids in manoeuvrability, says NWTT. With the increased gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 32 tonnes (35.25 U.S. tons), they save time and money on bulk deliveries and multiple drops.

    “An Exacting Specification”

“We couldn’t be happier with our new DAF,” explains Sam Mayor, Director of NWTT. “We’ve been really well-served by our existing DAF fleet, so when the time came to specify a brand-new vehicle, we knew we wanted a DAF. By ordering new, it has allowed us to tailor the truck specifically to our needs. DAF’s tridem setup is helping to make us more efficient. By working with DAF, Forshaw Engineering and Hiab on the truck, body and crane, we’ve created an exacting specification. The service we’ve received from all three companies has been excellent and our local DAF dealer, Lancashire DAF, was there to support us throughout the whole purchasing process.”
