Renault Subsidiary HYVIA Presents Hydrogen-Powered Renault Master Van H2-TECH Prototype

A few days ago, HYVIA unveiled a zero-emission Renault Master Van H2-TECH vehicle prototype alongside a new Hydrogen Refueling Station. Launched in June, the HYVIA is headquartered in France and is jointly owned by Renault and Plug Power, a provider of turnkey hydrogen and fuel cell solutions. HYVIA provides a complete ecosystem of light commercial vehicles equipped with fuel cell technology, hydrogen refueling stations, carbon-free hydrogen supplies, as well as financing and fleet maintenance services. The firm offers its refueling stations for purchase, lease, or rent, and says they can refuel fuel cell vehicles in less than five minutes.

“HYVIA, it’s about hydrogen mobility solutions for a tailor-made offer to our customers to meet the challenges of hydrogen mobility,” says HYVIA CEO David Holderbach. “HYVIA will be able to deploy its entire ecosystem in all territories and professional fleets for a carbon-free mobility.”

HYVIA will be on hand at the HyVolution exhibition occurring 27 to 28 October at the Paris Event Center. About 120 exhibitors and brands related to production, distribution, storage, and services for carbon-free hydrogen markets will be present.

    Mastering Hydrogen Mobility

Set for availability next year, the all-new Master Van H2-TECH will provide a 500-kilometre (310-mile) range and 12 cubic metres (15.7 cubic yards) of cargo volume while producing zero emissions. Manufactured in France at Renault’s Batilly plant, the van uses a 30-kilowatt fuel cell, a 33-kWh battery, and four tanks that store a combined 6 kilograms (13.2 pounds) of hydrogen. The van will meet the needs of fleets, businesses, local communities, and large accounts, Renault says.

Renault subsidiary PVI, which specialises in vehicles using alternative fuels, is completing the H2-TECH’s electric and hydrogen integration. Renault is producing the electric motor at its Cleon plant, and fuel cell assembly will begin at its Flins plant by year’s end. Renault is sourcing the hydrogen tanks from Faurecia. As part of this announcement, Renault also stated that work has begun on additional prototype vehicles, including a Master Chassis Cab H2-TECH large van with 19 cu m (24.9 cu y) of cargo volume and a roughly 259-km (160-mi) range, and a 15-passenger Master Citybus H2-TECH urban minibus with a 300-km (186-mi) range.

    Meet The Master

The Master range features completely redesigned and more fuel-efficient combustible engines rated for up to 180 horsepower (132.4 kilowatts) and 400 newton-metres (295 pounds-foot) of torque. Seven-seat crew and three-seat panel variants are available, as are Business Standard and Business + Standard feature packages. The crew version has a maximum payload from 1,155 to 1,180 kg (2,546 to 2,601.5 pounds) and a 9-cu-m (11.8-cu-y) standard load volume. The panel variant has an 848- to 2,061-kg (1,869.5- to 4,543.7-pound) maximum payload and 9- to 10.8-cu-m (11.8- to 14.1-cu-y) standard load volumes.

Renault offers Master vans with a wealth of standard traction technologies, including Grip Xtend, Hill Start Assist, and Trailer Swing Assist. The manufacturer also provides such business-related options and accessories as 270-degree rear doors for easier loading, a rear running board and handles for easy access to the loading area, LED load space lighting, roof boards, an aluminum walkway, steel ladders, and bespoke Ready4Work racking setups.
