Leyland Trucks, a commercial vehicle manufacturer based in Lancashire, produced its 500,00th vehicle and celebrated the accomplishment with a production line ceremony earlier this December. The event included the handover of the milestone DAF LF 210 truck to Minoli, a leading importer and distributor of Italian porcelain tiles.

“We as a company and a family, feel very privileged to have been invited to Leyland Trucks to mark such a momentous milestone in the company’s history,” says Jonathon Minoli. “We’ve been a DAF operator for almost 40 years now—and our relationship with the brand has been built on quality and reliability, that in turn allows us to meet our customers’ needs, day after day and year after year.”

    The Leyland Assembly Plant

Constructed in 1979, the Leyland Assembly Plant has been in full production since 1980. The more than 1,000-strong workforce currently produces a wide selection of DAF Trucks, including LF, CF, and XF models, as well as the recently introduced New Generation XF, XG, and XG+ vehicles. The assembly plant sits on an 86-acre site with 93,000 square metres (1,001,044 square feet) of production space.

    DAF LF

DAF says the LF is the UK’s “most popular distribution truck.” It is available with a gross vehicle weight of between 7.5 and 18 tonnes (8.3 and 19.8 U.S. tons) on a 4x2 axle configuration. Engine options include PACCAR PX-4, PX-5, and PX-7 engines that produce between 156 and 325 horsepower (116 and 242 kilowatts) and from 500 to 1,200 newton-metres (369 to 885 pounds-foot) of torque. There are also options for five-, six-, nine-, and 12-speed manual, automated manual, and fully automatic transmissions.

The LF 210 received by Minoli is powered by a 210 HP (156 kW) PACCAR PX-5 engine. This 16-t (17.6 U.S.-t) truck is also configured with a rear air suspension to reliably transport ceramic tiles from its distribution centre in Oxford to showrooms in London. All LFs also feature bodybuilder-friendly chassis designed to support a wide range of bodywork.
