KNP Logistics Group Adds 35 SDC Trailers Freespan Curtainsiders To 300-Plus Trailer Fleet

KNP Logistics Group recently expanded its fleet of more than 300 trailers with the purchase of 35 Freespan curtainsiders from SDC Trailers, which has delivered over 500 trailers to KNP throughout the companies’ 17-year relationship. (Photo courtesy of SDC.)

SDC Trailers recently announced that KNP Logistics Group has added 35 SDC Freespan curtainsiders valued at more than £1million to its fleet of more than 300 trailers. During a 17-year relationship, SDC has delivered over 500 trailers to KNP Logistics, which reports that SDC completed the latest order for its 4.2-metre (13.8-foot) tri-axle trailers despite some trying circumstances.

“Despite the high demand for new trailers and ongoing labour and materials shortages, with direct control over every stage of their manufacturing process, SDC delivered all KNP Group trailer builds to schedule,” says Paul Abbott, group director of KNP member company Knights of Old.

    The Freespan Curtainsider

Established in 1978, SDC Trailers claims to be Europe’s leading maker of bespoke semi-trailers for road haulage, logistics, and other customers. KNP Logistics Group, meanwhile, provides pallet distribution, global forwarding, and custom clearance services from depots in Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire, Derbyshire, and Hampshire. Most of its new Freespan curtainsiders feature the KNP livery, although a handful sport customer branding.

Freespan curtainsiders are built on a robotically welded chassis from high-tensile steel. They benefit from SDC’s bolt-on-body concept that reduces stress on key trailer parts and allows for easy repairs if damaged. Available as straight or step frames and with various door, floor, and storage options, the Freespan features clear side apertures that provide unobstructed access to cargo for efficient loading and unloading. Freespan trailers also use SDC’s proprietary low-friction alloy roof rail and easy-roll technology, and include BPW safe-load strapping systems. Their EN 12642 XL standard compliance means the Freespan can handle a 29,000-kilogram (63,934-pound) payload; the side wall retains 40% of the load, the front wall 50%, and the rear wall 30%.

    Even More Curtainsider Options

SDC Trailers’ other curtainsider trailer ranges include the Curtainsider, Longer Semi Trailer, Double Deck, Urban, Mega, Chipline, Coilwell, Sliding Body, Euroliner, Insuliner, and Curtain-Side Machine Carrier families. The company also produces Boxvan, Platform, Skeletal, Machine Carrier, and Drawbar trailer lines.
