The TGL is MAN Trucks' current lightweight contender, on offer at gross vehicle weights of between 7.5 tonnes and 12 tonnes and introduced back in 2006 as a replacement for the MAN L2000 (or MAN LE2000 as some call them). The truck can be bought in a choice of four cabs - the ‘C' cab - or day cab, the ‘L' cab - or standard sleeper, the ‘LX' cab - high roof sleeper or a TGL crew cab which seats a total of seven people.

The MAN TG L uses the 4.6 litre, 4-cylinder MAN D08 engine - first at Euro 4 with later models available at Euro 5 - still using EGR technology, meaning no Adblue to worry about. The TGL comes in two power outputs at 7.5 tonnes - the 150 and 180hp variants the TGL 7.150 and the TGL 7.180. The ten tonne TGL 10.180 and the 10.220 still use the MAN D08, but rated at 180 and 220hp respectively. The top weight TGL - the 12 tonne TGL 12.180 the TG L 12.220 and top power TGL 12.250 which uses a 6 cylinder 6.9 litre MAN D0836 engine.

EEV emissions engines were an option across the TGL Truck range - check to see if the used MAN TGL you are looking at is a standard Euro 5 or meets the EEV standard - it may be beneficial in years to come. Check also the type of gearbox fitted to the TGL - there is a choice of a 5 speed, 6 speed or 9 speed manual plus a 6 speed or 12 speed MAN TipMatic transmission, with the 12 speed available on the 12 tonner only.

Choose from an impressive seven wheelbase lengths on the 7.5 tonne TGL from 3.3 metre right up to 5.2 metres - but at this length watch the overall weight as the TGL is not renown for being a lightweight truck.
