Andover Area Oil & Gas Supplier HBS Fuels Replaces Older Mitsubishi FUSO Canters With New 7.5-Tonne Models

When HBS Fuels recently determined they needed to move two 7.5-tonne Mitsubishi FUSO Canters that they’d been using since 2006 and 2009 into backup roles, they also knew they’d replace them with the very same model. The company, an oil and gas supplier to businesses and homes in the Andover, County Hampshire, area, choose two 7.5-tonne Canter 7C15 variants with Comfort day cabs. The firm acquired the trucks from Marshall Truck & Van, which represents Mercedes-Benz in the Hampshire and Dorset areas. Mercedes-Benz distributes FUSO Canters in Europe.

    The Power To Deliver

Obtained with funding support from Mercedes-Benz Finance, the trucks join a fleet of 15 registered 7.5-tonne Canters that HBS Fuels uses to deliver liquefied petroleum gas within an 8.3-kilometre radius of its base in Stockbridge. Each 150-horsepower (110-kilowatt) Canter 7C15 features a 3.0-litre common-rail diesel engine that outputs 370 newton-metres torque, a 340-centimetre wheelbase chassis with dropside body, and a 1,000-kilogram tail lift.

    A Better Payload

HBS Fuels’ Canters can haul up to 3,250 kilograms. Each LPG cylinder the company delivers weighs 85 kilograms when full. Steve Walker, HBS Fuels operations manager, says, “The Canter has the best payload on the market, and with up to 38 bottles onboard, ours are invariably close to their maximum gross weight when they set off each morning. You wouldn’t get anything like that many bottles on the other makes of 7.5-tonne truck we’ve tried in the past.”

    Inspecting The Canter

The Mitsubishi FUSO Canter is a versatile truck designed for a wide range of applications, including delivery, construction, landscaping, snow ploughing, and much more. Models range from 3.5 to 8.55 tonnes, with chassis load capacities ranging from 1.6 to 6 tonnes. Engine outputs range from 130 to 175 horsepower, and there are options for manual or automatic transmissions, depending on the model.

A 4x4 version of the Canter is available for working in challenging terrain. A 100% emission-free eCanter model is also available that features an electric motor producing up to 156 horsepower (116 kW) and 390 N-m (287.6 lbf-ft) of torque. The vehicle charges in seven hours, and has a one-hour fast charge available. The truck provides a 100-kilometre (62.1-mile) range with a full payload.
