What are the UK’s Best-Selling Truck models in 2019?

We are often asked this question at Truck Locator and, looking back over the years, DAF have been the runaway market leader for new truck sales for decades. With a share of over 30% of the new truck market, the Dutch company has gone from strength to strength under the ownership of US-based PACCAR.

Scania R Series - Trucklocator's most popular model

The first half of 2019 saw DAF’s volumes increase by nearly 50% over their 2018 levels in a marketplace up by ‘just’ 34%.

Looking at the overall number of registrations is one thing, but DAF’s sales of trucks in the UK will be made up of many more light trucks than Scania, for example. Data is notoriously difficult to come by regarding registrations of models of trucks – even prior to the unannounced inspections of the truckmakers by the European Commission back in 2011.

But what concrete facts are there that we can share?

Scania R-Series is UK’s most Popular Truck (on Trucklocator)

At Trucklocator we have thousands of users searching the site every day looking for used trucks. We can definitely say which are the most popular model searches. Take a look at the chart below to see the percentage of trucklocator.co.uk’s used truck page views each model range achieved for the month of September.

    Top Truck Models September 2019

    1 Scania R Series 11.48%
    2 DAF CF 9.20%
    3 Volvo FH 8.31%
    4 Mercedes Actros 7.24%
    5 Scania P Series 6.67%
    6 Volvo FM 6.36%
    7 DAF LF 6.16%
    8 DAF XF 4.27%
    9 Mercedes Axor 3.38%
    10 MAN TGX 2.25%
    11  Scania G Series 2.01%
    12 Iveco Eurocargo 1.86%
    13 Mercedes Atego 1.68%
    14 Mitsubishi Canter 1.35%
    15 MAN TGS 1.25%

We can see that the most looked at truck range was the Scania R Series. Whether this actually translates into sales is another question. Perhaps dealers can share their experiences of actual used truck sales with us - contact us here
