Armagh-Based Haulier Adds 20 New SDC Curtainsider High-Cube Trailers To Fleet For Operations In Ireland & The UK
Global Cargo Solutions (GCS), a transport specialist based in Armagh in Northern Ireland, recently added 20 new SDC Curtainsider high-cube trailers to its fleet on long-term leases from Hireco N.I. Each of the trailers meets the EN 12642-XL standard and features an internal load clearance of 3.1 metres (10.2 feet). Other features include document holders, storage space for tools, a hubometer, and a coupling box. GCS also opted for an infill crash bar, rear buffers, tracking devices, three-way cameras, and a pull-out step for added safety.
Fast-Growing Company
Although Global Cargo Solutions has only been in business since 2016, the company has quickly become a go-to transporter for Irish Sea freight and currently runs a fleet consisting of 40 tractor units and more than 100 trailers. The latest order from SDC will help GCS keep up with that demand while serving customers in both Ireland and the UK.
“With increasing demand for our services and the extra demand caused by the pandemic we made the decision to expand our fleet so that we could be more flexible,” says GCS Operations Director Andrea Woolsey. “We placed an order with Hireco in September of last year, so that they would go into service from January. The majority of our trailers are SDC and they have served our operations very well, they offer extremely durable quality, and it is clear that they have been engineered with the customer in mind. We opted with Hireco’s full maintenance and breakdown cover which allows us to keep our vehicles in pristine condition.”

The base Curtainsider supports a payload capacity of up to 29 tonnes (32 U.S. tons), and SDC offers a wide range of load restraint options to protect the valuable cargo inside. Other standout features include ISO-compliant flooring, a stainless-steel coupling box, and ratchet tensioners in the front and rear. The SDC Curtainsider utilises lightweight construction that increases payload capacity and improves fuel efficiency.
