Coventry Scaffolding Buys Its First Mercedes-Benz Truck, Quickly Orders A Second

Coventry Scaffolding has contributed to work on many of London’s most prestigious buildings, and is the only scaffolder in London to hold a Royal Warrant. The 70-year-old firm recently purchased a 26-tonne (28.6-U.S.-ton) Mercedes-Benz Arocs with MirrorCam technology to comply with London’s Direct Vision Scheme (DVS), as most of its work takes place in the city. The Arocs 2530L—Coventry Scaffolding’s first Mercedes-Benz truck—features the ClassicSpace L-cab and a slew of technology to enhance visibility and safety.

“MirrorCam is unreal,” says driver Gary Hiley. “The visibility is great when I’m reversing and there are hardly any blind spots when looking ahead.”

The Right Truck At The Right Time

When Coventry Scaffolding approached Sparshatt Truck & Van, the dealer already had the 26-t Arocs with a pre-built scaffolding body in stock. Sparshatt sales executive Shaun O’Hara drove the truck directly to Coventry Scaffoldings for Co-Managers Perry and Paul Hanifan to see.

“We wanted a stand-out vehicle on which to highlight our 70th anniversary milestone and Sparshatt’s truck fitted the bill perfectly,” says Coventry Scaffolding Co-Manager Perry Hanifan. “Not only are we looking forward to benefiting from the reliability and durability for which Mercedes-Benz products have long been renowned, but the truck also came with a full complement of safety technology and the three-star DVS rating that our established chassis supplier couldn’t offer.”

Coventry Scaffolding enjoyed operating their new Arocs so much, the company has since ordered an Actros 1843 tractor unit.

    Room To Spare

The new Arocs 2530L six-wheeler features a 300-horsepower (220-kilowatt), 7.7-litre engine and transports much more than scaffolding. The ClassicSpace L-cab features a fold-down bunk that doubles as a four-man bench seat for crew. The scaffolding platform also easily carries the various boards, tubes, and fixtures Coventry Scaffolding needs for the jobsite. The Arocs was repainted in Post Office red at Sparshatt Truck & Van’s body shop to celebrate Coventry Scaffolding’s 70th anniversary.
