An independent panel of senior figures in the motor industry has presented Renault Trucks with a major award for its Z.E. range of fully electric trucks with lithium-ion batteries. The Z.E. family of vehicles won the Technical Excellence Award at the 2021 Motor Transport Awards, which was held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

The Award lauds Renault Trucks for devising the best solution for the needs of its customers, such as improving air quality and reducing noise pollution while maintaining productivity. The Z.E. range, which is actively in use in the UK, also acts as a model for a more sustainable transport system on the road to a zero-carbon paradigm.

    The Net-Zero Challenge

“Renault Trucks has championed the zero-emission journey for the UK transport industry, so to be recognised with the Motor Transport Technical Excellence Award for our Z.E. range is hugely exciting,” says Renault Trucks UK and Ireland Managing Director Carlos Rodrigues. “The move to zero-carbon solutions is the single most significant change in our industry and will benefit everyone in society.

“For Renault Trucks to be recognised, not just for the technical excellence of our Master Z.E. and D Z.E. models, but also our collaborative approach to the transformation is very satisfying,” Rodrigues says. “We hope this award will be a springboard to many operators’ move to a more sustainable future—starting today!”

    The Renault Z.E. Family

Renault produces all-electric Z.E. trucks in the 3.1- to 26-tonne (3.4- to 28.7-U.S.-ton) gross vehicle weight market segment. The models in the battery-propelled range include the Master Z.E., D Z.E., D Wide Z.E. and D Wide Z.E. Low Entry Cab.

Renault Trucks is currently developing a fully electric Z.E. tractor with a goal of fielding zero-emissions trucks for the long-distance, construction, distribution, and other sectors starting in 2023. The manufacturer also pledges to make 10% of its trucks over 12 t (13.2 U.S. t) fossil-free by the end of 2025, 35% in the year 2030, and 100% by 2040.
