Customised Krone Profi Liner Provides BH Cecil & Sons Needed Flexibility

BH Cecil & Sons Ltd, a family-owned international transporter based in Blakeney in Gloucestershire, has long relied on Krone trailers to carry loads throughout Europe, but needed something a little different for the most recent addition to its fleet, which includes temperature-controlled and general haulage trailers for transporting most types of freight anywhere in the UK and Ireland.

Their new Krone Profi Liner curtainsider has been adapted to accommodate a DAF tractor unit with a 3.1-metre (10-foot) wheelbase and a tag axle and stay within the overall Euro vehicle length limit of 16.5 m (54 ft) and the height limit of 4 m (13 ft). To achieve this, Krone placed the landing legs farther back on the trailer for closer coupling with the DAF. Krone also installed 550-millimetre (21.6-inch) aluminium dropsides and a sliding roof. The result is a flexible trailer that can transport cargo of almost any shape or size and is perfect for BH Cecil’s mixed loads of items such as plants and recycled plastics.

“We’ve run Krone trailers for a while and as far as we are concerned, they are the strongest and best on the market.” says Director Paul Cecil. “This time, however, we needed something a little more special and I’m delighted to say, even though Krone produces hundreds per week, this trailer is as close to a custom build as you can get.”

    Additional Features

The Profi Liner is fitted with steel container-type rear doors that have integrated door furniture, hinges, and latches concealed behind the door skins for a flat surface for the trailer livery. The trailer is also equipped with the Krone Multi Lock strapping system with fixing points every 10 centimetres (3 in.) along each side rave. The strapping system, along with the steel mesh-reinforced curtains and load-locking beams keep each load secured and protected.

In addition to meeting exacting size requirements, the haulier’s new Profi Liner features the company’s distinctive livery to match its rigs. (Photo courtesy of Krone.)

“Krone was the only manufacturer who could offer us such a high-quality and exclusive paint finish,” Cecil says. “The chassis is KTL-primed and powder-coated in our own distinctive metallic green, while the dropsides, side guards, rear bumper, and hubs are finished in red, and it all comes with a Krone guarantee of 10 years against corrosion perforation on steel components. On top of that, we have a warranty extension for the Krone axles of 6 years without mileage limitation on the road, within the EU. All in all, we just can’t go wrong!”

    About The Profi Liner

Profi Liner trailers use smaller base plates to lower their tare weights and have robot-manufactured steel container doors for a tight seal. The sliding roof is a curtain reinforced with diagonal trussing. The solid three-part front wall is made of steel and firmly bolted to the frame so it can brace against the load in the event of an emergency.
