New SDC Trailers Freespan Curtainsiders Allow Construct IT To Meet Demands Of Growing Business
Construct IT, a West Midlands-based construction material haulage provider, has added 40 new SDC Trailers Freespan curtainsiders to its fleet. The new curtainsiders join existing platform trailers and other curtainsiders, and have allowed Construct IT to match its growing business and the varying requirements of its customers, which include construction material manufacturers located throughout the UK.
“They complement our crane offload vehicles, and increase our offering to our construction customers for delivering bagged aggregates, bricks, blocks, and cement, etc. where mechanical offload isn’t required,” says Construct IT Sales Director David McWilliams.
The Freespan Curtainsider
McWilliams and Construct IT Operations Director Amarat Gill collaborated on the specification for the new trailers. Along with the aforementioned materials, Construct IT hauls materials such as paving material, stone, and tile. Its fleet includes artic curtainsiders, centre-mount and roll-along artic cranes, drawbar cranes, urban cranes, and artic trailers equipped with demountable forklift trucks. The curtainsiders sport the company’s neon and black livery, which won Livery Of The Year at the 2021 Motor Transport Awards.
Construct IT’s curtainsiders are built using SDC Trailers’ bolt-on body concept and low-friction alloy roof rail and easy-roll technology with clear side apertures, which provide safe, efficient loading and unloading. The trailers have BPW Eco-Plus axles, third-generation Haldex brakes, flush steel doors, ISO (International Organization for Standardization) rear protection buffers, and an easy-access coupling box. The Freespan is built on a robotically welded chassis from high-tensile steel, which reduces weight and allows for increased payloads. Straight and step-frame chassis options are available. Compliance with the EN 12642 XL standard means the Freespan can haul a 29,000-kilogram (63,934-pound) payload.
