Shropshire-based Mark Steward Transport recently acquired a new Schmitz Cargobull S.KO Cool semitrailer with an S.CU V2.0 cooling unit to its fleet for temperature-controlled deliveries. The trailer is paired with a Daf XG+ tractor unit. This isn’t the Oswestry-based firm’s first Schmitz Cargobull trailer; they already have another S.KO Cool as well as a Schmitz Cargobull box trailer. The new S.KO Cool trailer will transport frozen foods to supermarkets nationwide, covering approximately 130,000 kilometres (80,800 miles) a year.

    Schmitz Cargobull’s S.KO Cool

S.KO Cool has a vapour diffusion-tight, ageing-resistant, shatterproof box body and Ferroplast thermal technology for durability and insulation. The scuff rail is welded to the floor to protect the sidewalls from damage and maintain insulation quality. The liquid-tight welded floor pan and flush-fitting attachments ease cleaning between loads. If the trailer is partially unloaded, the Load Spread Programme will take the pressure off the rear axle to compensate for the change in the centre of gravity.

    More Efficient Cooling

The semitrailer has robust connecting ducts for the S.CU cooling unit to ensure uniform temperature throughout the trailer body. The cooling unit is designed for precise temperature control and reduced defrosting cycles. It is available in MonoTemp and MultiTemp versions to accommodate various types of freight.

The S.CU V2.0 has an updated diesel engine and generator combination that increases fuel efficiency. The drive unit has intelligent partial load operation to ensure minimal deviation from the temperature set point for cold storage. The unit has three performance modes—Power, Normal, and Eco—and has 15,900 watts of cooling capacity.

“The S.KO Cool combined with the diesel-powered S.CU V2.0 cooling unit is exceptional, helping to reduce operating costs and improve the sustainability of the business,” says owner Mark Steward. “The MonoTemp version of the cooling unit allows us to maintain a consistent temperature throughout the trailer. What impresses most is the S.CU’s fuel savings of up to 15%. It also runs quietly so it doesn’t affect drivers when they are overnighting in the cab.”
