Scania Euro 6 Engine Followed Iveco from 2016 with SCR Only

A surprise from the Scania stand in the Hannover truck show in Germany was the display of a nine litre 5 cylinder engine at Euro 6 using just SCR for emission control.

Following down the path started by Iveco with their Hi-eSCR system which allows the Cursor 11 to reach Euro 6 without using an EGR system.

What Scania have done is to give the operator the choice - they can opt for an EGR/SCR combination at 250 and 280hp whilst top power 320 and 360 9-litre engines use just SCR.

Scania were early out of the blocks with Euro 6 - they have been running their 13-litre 6 cylinder at Euro 6 using both EGR and SCR since 2011.

In addition to the Euro 6 diesels, Scania demonstrated their new 9-litre, Euro 6 gas engines, which can be powered by CNG or double the range on LNG. Rated at either 280 or 340 hp, the company claims that these gas engines have power delivery characteristics that resemble the diesel engines with plenty of torque.
