MLG Transport, founded in 1991 and based in Elgin, recently bought its first Volvo truck from Volvo Truck and Bus Centre North & Scotland in Inverness. The 6x2 rear steer Volvo FH500 tractor features a Globetrotter Cab, Volvo D13K engine that produces up to 500 horsepower, a 12-speed I-Shift automated transmission, and a tyre pressure control system on both the drive and tag axles, which helps the truck operate well in on- or off-road applications. The truck will be used primarily for timber transport.
“In 27 years of business, this is the first time we’ve bought a Volvo truck,” says Michael Gradon, a partner at MLG Transport. “It’s early days yet, but so far, so good. The driver likes it and the I-Shift gearbox seems particularly refined. To guarantee 100 percent uptime, MLG Transport opted for a three-year Volvo Gold Service Contract. We will carry out the six weekly inspections back at base and Volvo’s Gold Contract was an attractive option, both operationally and financially.”
Other Features
On the exterior, you’ll find MLG Transport’s livery set against Volvo’s new Cappuccino Brown Pearl paint colour as well as a red chassis and Alcoa Dura-Bright alloy wheels. On the interior, MLG opted for a single bunk living compartment, leather seats, a refrigerator, and microwave. The FH also has a Jost JSK fifth wheel, chequer plate chassis infills, and a hydraulic kit. MLG Transport will take advantage of Volvo’s Dynafleet fleet management platform (accessible via the Dynafleet app) to improve its operational efficiency and monitor the health of its trucks.
