Bowman Skip Hire, a road transport, waste management, and logistics company based out of Duisky, Fort William, in Scotland, recently purchased a new Volvo FH truck. The vehicle, which was sold to Bowmans by Kevin Fraser out of Volvo Truck and Bus Centre North & Scotland’s Inverness location, is an 8x4, Tridem rear-steer configuration with a D13K Euro-6 engine that produces up to 540 horsepower and 12-speed I-Shift automated manual transmission. Bowmans also went with the five-year Volvo Gold Service Contract for its new FH truck.
Back Into The Fold
The Volvo FH comes with a flat roof sleeper cab, a 10-tonne front axle with Boughton hook lift gear, and a VBG coupling. Bowmans opted for the Drive+ and Media+ packages as well as full leather trim and a 33-litre refrigerator. It also features four cameras with 360-degree recording capabilities. The company bought its last Volvo FH in 1994, but the company decided to come back to the brand 24 years later specifically for the 8x4 Tridem configuration.
"Collecting and delivering skips from our customers' premises means manoeuvrability is a critical factor,” says Michael Bowman, commercial director of Bowman Skip Hire. “The Tridem rear-steer improves access and reduces the tyre wear. The wind-drag created by two large bins, combined with the amount of hill work in this area, makes it's a great opportunity to go for more horsepower than we usually select. Volvo's 540-horsepower power plant makes journey times slightly quicker at a higher average speed."
