Edge Transport Adds A Volvo FE 6x2 To Its Fleet
Edge Transport of Flintshire recently added a Volvo FE
6x2 rigid truck to its fleet. The 26-tonne vehicle has a Euro 6 D8K engine that generates 320 horsepower and an I-Shift 12-speed automated manual transmission. It features a curtainside body from Tiger Trailers and a fold-away tail lift from D-Hollandia. Edge Transport’s FE model, which was supplied by Thomas Hardie Commercials Ltd, also sports a special livery to celebrate the company’s 85th anniversary. Edge Transport chose the Comfort Cab option for its FE, which offers additional space that can be used for an office or to hold a single bed.
Joining The Family
All but two of Edge Transport’s fleet of 35 vehicles consists of Volvo
trucks. It includes 18 tractor units, including FH
and FM
models with 6x2 pusher axles that are used overnight to support its Palletline operations as well as during the day for general hauling work. Palletline is a distribution service provider with an extensive network of carriers, of which Edge Transport is a member, and the new Volvo FE 6x2 model will support those duties. The company also has several FE and FL
models in its fleet.
Long-Time Customer
Founded in 1933, Edge Transport has been a Volvo customer since the 1980s, and purchased its first vehicle from Thomas Hardie Commercials Ltd in 2012. All of Edge Transport’s Volvo trucks are backed up by Volvo Gold Service contracts and the company orders them “on contract hire” for a five-year period, according to a press release.
