IVECO Sells 10 Stralis X-WAY Trucks to MKM Building Supplies

IVECO has delivered 10 new 26-tonne IVECO Stralis X-WAY trucks to MKM Building Supplies as part of the latter’s fleet replacement programme. MKM, the UK’s largest independent builders’ merchant, sells building, plumbing, and timber supplies and is based in Hull, East Yorkshire. North East Truck & Van (NETV) in Billingham sold MKM the trucks to be used for final-mile deliveries to construction sites.

“The new X-WAY hit the mark perfectly,” says MKM Building Supplies’ Head of Transport Shane Thompson. “Hearing positive feedback from another builders’ merchant which took one of the first new models convinced me to place an order.”

    On- & Off-Road Versions

MKM chose the AD260X31Y/PS model of the Stralis X-WAY, a 6x4 rigid edition. It’s the ON configuration with a reinforced chassis for on-road homologation. That being said, the ON Stralis X-Way is still suitable for light off-road missions such as construction site deliveries, according to IVECO parent company CNH Industrial, and that’s why MKM settled on it. IVECO also makes ON+ and OFF versions designed to spend more time off-road; each has progressively higher approach angles and greater ground clearance.

The trucks use an 8.7-litre Cursor 9 diesel engine with 310 horsepower (231 kilowatts) and 1,300 Newton metres (960 pounds-foot) of torque in a lightweight package. It uses IVECO’s HI-SCR (selective catalytic reduction) exhaust aftertreatment system to comply with Stage IV standards without EGR (exhaust gas recirculation). The modular design of the X-Way platform made it easy for IVECO to mount a crane and add dropside bodywork for easy loading and unloading of building materials.

“So far, the new X-WAY’s performance has been excellent,” says Thompson.
