Wrings Transport, a trucking company based in the Bristol area, recently purchased a Mercedes-Benz Actros Edition 1 truck with a special livery and grille that celebrate the company’s 25th anniversary. Mercedes-Benz points out that of the 400 Actros Edition 1 produced, “only 35 will reach the domestic market,” making it a truly limited-edition flagship model for Wrings. The Actros Edition 1, which features a GigaSpace cab, has four available engine options, including a 15.6-litre 625-horsepower (466-kilowatt) option, but Wrings decided to go with the 12.8-litre 530-horsepower (395-kilowatt) engine. This most recent order follows the purchase of 10 Actros 2545, 10 Antos, and two Atego models last year, all supplied by City West Commercials.

The Actros Edition 1 boasts a special sun visor, four additional LED headlamps, and darkened headlamp covers and rims on the exterior. Inside, the truck has black leather trim, an aluminium “One of 400” badge on the dashboard, and a 900-millimetre (35.4-inch)-wide bed. In addition to the Actros’ standard complement of safety features, the Edition 1 delivered to Wrings Transport also features the Sight Package, which includes bi-xenon lamps and fog lamps, LED daytime running lights, cornering lights, LED tail lights, and a rain sensor. Wrings also spec’d it with Mercedes-Benz’s Driving, Comfort, Media, and Stowage packages.

    A Strong Relationship

“Looking back over the last 25 years, there are lots of things I’d have done differently. We’ve made plenty of mistakes along the way, but I’d like to think we’ve learned from them and haven’t made the same one twice. One we definitely got right, though, was to align ourselves so closely to Mercedes-Benz,” says Wrings Transport MD Stuart Wring. “We bought our first Mercedes-Benz, a 7.5-tonner, a couple of years after we started out, and we’ve been running them ever since. In my opinion, Mercedes-Benz is the market leader when it comes to research and development. Its trucks are reliable, very good on fuel, exceptionally safe, and the build quality’s great.”

More On The Mercedes-Benz Actros Range

The Actros is available as a rigid truck or tractor unit with axle configurations ranging from 4x2 to 6x4. There are 17 cab variants, including GigaSpace, BigSpace, StreamSpace, ClassicSpace, and CompactSpace L-cabs. Engine outputs range from 235 to 617 horsepower (175 to 460 kilowatts) and from 1,000 to 3,000 newton metres (738 to 2,213 pounds-foot) of max torque. Mercedes-Benz designed the Actros with long-distance haulage in mind; its Multimedia Cockpit combines ergonomic and connectivity refinements to allow operators to drive and live in comfort.

Safety features included with the Edition 1 that also come with other Actros models as standard include the MirrorCam that replaces traditional mirrors to improve visibility while also improving aerodynamics on the exterior. Actros models also come standard with a driver side airbag, Predictive Powertrain Control system and the Mercedes-Benz Safety Package, which includes Active Brake Assist with Proximity Control Assist and pedestrian recognition technology.

You will find hundreds of used Mercedes-Benz truck for sale every day on TruckLocator, including a large selection of Actros models.
