Abacus Logistics Ltd, a freight specialist based in Southampton, Hampshire, recently added the first New Generation MAN TGX in the United Kingdom to its 35-vehicle fleet. The truck will live near the Southampton Docks and handle palletised and containerised loads along with five other recently purchased MAN vehicles. The 6x2 44-tonner features a 12.4-litre Euro6D D26 engine that produces 510 horsepower (380 kilowatts) and 2,600 newton-metres of torque, as well as a low-friction drive axle that MAN says can improve fuel efficiency “to the tune of an 8% saving” compared to the previous drivetrain.

The new TGX also has a GX cab painted Traffic White and sporting Abacus’s livery. Interior features include a multifunction steering wheel with comfort steering, SmartSelect Infotainment controls, MAN’s Media System with built-in satellite navigation, and an electric glass sunroof. MAN also put an emphasis on safety with the latest TGX with adaptive cruise control with Stop-Go, electronic stability program, emergency brake assist, lane departure warning, and LED cornering lights. The truck is covered by a three-year ComfortSuper repair and maintenance package and the driver will have access to 24/7/365 Mobile24 roadside assistance as well.

    Safe, Comfortable & Efficient

“This is a great honour for us to be chosen as the first UK operator to take delivery of the UK’s first new generation MAN truck,” says Peter Carr, CEO of Abacus Logistics Ltd. “Safety, driver comfort, and fuel efficiency are all major consideration factors when we look at purchasing new vehicles. We need to ensure that we do all we can to protect both our drivers throughout their working days and at the same time other vulnerable road users. High levels of comfort help ensure our drivers are both happy and productive during their day, and as fuel amounts to around 30% of total vehicle running costs, having an efficient and clean vehicle is paramount. We feel we have addressed all of these needs with MAN.”

    More MAN TGX Details

The MAN TGX is a highly versatile vehicle that’s well-suited for long-haul trucking as well as a wide range of vocational and municipal applications, including construction, timber and agriculture, firefighting and emergency services, refuse collection and street cleaning, and many others. The D15, D26, and D38 engine options produce between 330 and 640 hp (256 and 477 kW) and from 1,600 to 3,000 newton-metres of torque. It also comes standard with a MAN TipMatic electronically controlled manual transmission, which features SmartShifting technology for smoother gear changes. Cab options include the XL, XLX, and XXL. The XXL has an interior standing height of 2,100 millimetres with two beds and ample storage space.
