DAF Trucks had a strong 2020, highlighted by an increase in market share in the European heavy-duty category from 16.2% in 2019 to 16.3% last year. DAF sold 37,580 heavy-duty trucks, which are vehicles with gross vehicle weights of 16 tonnes (17.6 U.S. tons) and above, accounting for a sizable chunk of the 230,400 such vehicles sold across all brands. The company’s medium-duty market share in Europe dropped slightly from 9.7% to 9.5% year-over-year.
Success Inside & Outside Of Europe
Broken down by country, DAF had heavy-duty market shares of 31.8% in the Netherlands, 31.6% in the UK, 27.9% Hungary, 25.4% in Bulgaria, 23.7% in Poland, and 21.8% in Portugal. The company is the leading tractor unit manufacturer and import brand in France and Germany, and has a 11.5% market share in the heavy-duty rigid segment. DAF also brought new models to Taiwan, Brazil, and countries in the Middle East and Africa, which contributed to the Dutch manufacturer selling 5,880 vehicles outside of the European Union.
Other Facts & Figures
Over the course of the year, DAF produced more than 46,000 vehicles, including CFs, LFs, and XFs; sold more than 2,000 PACCAR engines to bus and special vehicle manufacturers; and saw 45 new dealerships open around the globe. The company also set a time frame for production of its CF Electric truck and unveiled the LF Electric, which have ranges of 200 and 280 kilometres (124 and 174 miles), respectively.
