MAN Shows Off OptiView Mirror Camera System On TruckLife Tour

MAN’s TruckLife tour is a roadshow moving through Europe that gives truckers and VIP guests the opportunity to test the safety functions of the new MAN TGX. In particular, the tour seeks to raise awareness of MAN’s OptiView technology, which replaces exterior mirrors with cameras on the front and sides of the vehicle. Drivers visiting the tour are challenged to slalom and manoeuvre backwards safely through an obstacle course using the OptiView system.

    The Camera-Based Mirror System

MAN OptiView feeds camera video to in-cab screens on the A-pillars, as well as to the onboard media system, to show what’s happening around the truck. With a selection of views from which to choose (switched either manually or automatically), MAN says OptiView eliminates blind spots, improves visibility, and improves the safety of other road users. When automatically controlling the view, OptiView varies the camera depending on the driving direction, speed, and steering angle. Cab screens can also display turn assist functions.

    MAN TruckLife Tour

The TruckLife tour got under way on 3 August at the Euro Rastpark motorway services in Schweitenkirchen in Bavaria, Germany. At the time of this writing, the tour had already traveled through Italy and Poland and will soon be in Belgium (13 August), Spain (17 and 18 August), and France (23 to 24 August).
