New Generation DAF XF 450 FTP Maximises Payload For Roger Warnes Transport

Posted On: Wednesday 22 September 2021

“The arrival of the New Generation DAF XF has captured the imagination of our drivers,” says Ian Barclay, Operations Director at Roger Warnes Transport. (Photo courtesy of DAF.)

Roger Warnes Transport is one of several operators across Europe taking part in DAF’s New Generation field test programme. As such, the bulk haulage firm recently received a New Generation version of the XF 450 FTP mid-lift with many of the latest and greatest DAF features, including DAF’s Digital Vision System, full LED lighting, a kerb-view window, and a roof spoiler and side collars. Most importantly for Roger Warnes Transport, the New Generation XF 450 FTP boasts a full air kit and a comparatively low kerb weight.

“As a bulk haulier, the New Generation DAF XF’s low kerb weight is really benefiting us as we’re paid by the kilo,” says Roger Warnes Transport Operations Director Ian Barclay. “It’s allowing us to maximise payload and drive down costs. Even with our wet-kit fitted and a full 700-litre fuel tank, we’re still easily hitting our 29-tonne payload target.”

All The Better To See With

Improved visibility is a point of particular emphasis on the New Generation DAF trucks. The new XF cab, for example, provides drivers with a wraparound windscreen and high seating position. “Our driver absolutely appreciates the extra visibility provided by the door-mounted kerb view window,” says Barclay. The forward visibility features also combine with DAF’s Digital Vision System that replaces external mirrors with mounted screens, resulting in a 3-Star London Direct Vision Standard rating.

    New Generation Power & Responsiveness

Roger Warnes Transport’s XF 450 FTP is equipped with a 10.8-litre PACCAR MX-11 engine that delivers 330 kilowatts (450 horsepower) and 2,350 newton-metres (1,733 pounds-foot) of torque. The New Generation truck also features a 12-speed TraXon gearbox, which Barclay says “is even more responsive when pulling out at roundabouts and junctions and while merging onto motorways” than previous-generation trucks.

“The arrival of the New Generation DAF XF has really reinforced our commitment to the brand,” Barclay says. “It’s made us take a step back and look at the fleet as a whole. We’re excited to upgrade the fleet to New Generation DAF products as and when the time comes to make the switch.”
