DAF Trucks recently presented their 19-tonne gross vehicle weight (GVW) LF Electric with PACCAR curtainside body at the Freight in the City Expo, an urban logistics event held at Alexandra Palace in London.

    About The DAF LF Electric

The LF Electric provides 260 kilowatts (348 horsepower) of nominal power (370 kW/496 HP peak) and nominal and peak torque ratings of 1,970 and 3,700 newton-metres (1,453 and 2,7278 pounds-foot) that comes from a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack with gross energy content of 282 kWh (254 kWh effective). The truck has a range of up to 280 zero-emission kilometres. The truck displayed at Freight in the City has a payload of 9100 kilograms (20,062 pounds).

DAF says it opts for LFP batteries because they contain no cobalt or magnesium, making them more sustainable. They are packaged for a higher energy density per litre and the chemical makeup has high thermal safety characteristics. DAF’s LFP batteries have a warranty of at least six years.

    Multiple Charging Options

The LF Electric has a Combine Charging System that allows the truck to be charged through regular power networks and is ideal for use when the truck returns at the end of the day. When slow charging (400 V AC, 22 kW, three-phase), the battery can be charged from 20% to 80% in 6.5 hours or fully charged in up to 12 hours. If dedicated fast-charging equipment (650 V DC, 150 kW) is available, the battery can go from 20% to 80% in one hour or fully charge in two hours.

A full range of fixed and mobile battery-charging solutions are available from DAF and can be used with other electric commercial vehicles as well. The line includes fixed charging stations with power levels ranging from 20 kW up to 360 kW. The mobile range has power levels from 24 kW up to 40 kW. Daily operations of an individual truck can be supported by a charging capability between 20kW to 50kW for overnight charging. The charging stations are backed by a two-year warranty.

An optional 400-V e-PTO for auxiliary equipment, including an electric cooling installation or an electro-hydraulic crane, is also available and eliminates the need for a separate generator to provide a full zero-emission distribution truck.
