The Volkswagen Crafter Luton is now available in a new chiller conversion thanks to York-based partner The Cold Consortium. The new vehicle option, based on the Engineered To Go Crafter Luton by Ingimex, can cool its cargo to 0 degrees Celsius (32 degrees Fahrenheit) to preserve foodstuffs, pharmaceuticals, and other cargo.

“The temperature-controlled vehicle market is growing, and we’re delighted to be able to announce a new conversion in partnership with The Cold Consortium,” says Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Specialist Sales Manager Nick Axtell. “Recognised conversions like this are all part of our commitment to providing our customers with the right van for their job, no matter the industry or requirement.”

    Cool Partners

The new conversion’s refrigeration body features lightweight, pressure-bonded insulation panels and motion-detecting infrared sensor lighting. A multi-strip rear curtain helps to maintain the interior’s cold operating temperature. The body’s forward bulkhead panel is reinforced to support the weight of the overhead refrigeration system evaporator.

Volkswagen provides its standard base vehicle warranty to conversions made by its 21 Recognised Partners, including the three-year warranty of the new Crafter Luton refrigerated conversion. The company’s Converter Recognition Scheme offers dropsides and tippers as well as wheelchair access vehicles, car transporters, mobile workshops, and many more.

    The Volkswagen Crafter Luton

The Crafter is available in both van and chassis cab forms. Its Luton van variant has a single cab, an uprated suspension, and an optional tail lift. Ingimex equips the interior of the body with its four-tier deck lashing as well as other load restraint systems.

The Crafter Luton comes with several standard van safety features including Front Assist with City Emergency Braking, Automatic Post-Collision Braking, Electromechanical Servotronic steering, Lane Assist, a Driver Alert System, anti-lock brakes, traction and stability control, an electronic differential lock, Hill Start Assist, and others. Options include a Hill Descent Assist, a side airbag, a tyre pressure monitoring system, road sign recognition, and more.
