Supply and haulage specialist Fox Group will reduce emissions and noise on urban jobsites in March when two Volvo FE Electric trucks with Thompsons tipper bodywork join its fleet. “Placing this order marks the start of the electrification of our fleet,” says Fox Group Managing Director Paul Fox. “We understand we are the first company in the UK to invest in electric tippers—and one of the first in Europe.”
Reducing Carbon Emissions One Tip At A Time
The 27-tonne (29.7-U.S.-ton) Volvo FE Electric tippers are day cab rigids with a projected range of around 150 kilometres (93 miles). Both trucks will come equipped with a hydraulically steered rear axle to increase manoeuvrability, a critical capability in urban environments; they generate up to 400 kilowatts of power and 850 newton-metres (627 pounds-foot) of torque, and Fox Group plans to recharge their batteries overnight.
“We recognise the changes we need to make as a business won’t happen overnight but, along with introducing two electric trucks in the fleet, we are actively looking at other aspects of the business where we can reduce our carbon footprint even further,” says Fox.
The Future Is Electric
“We are strongly committed to playing our part in the UK’s push to reach net zero and we will be making more of our fleet electric in the future,” explains Fox. “This milestone is just the beginning of the journey, and we believe if the country is serious about substantially reducing carbon emissions, the construction sector needs to join the party.”
Neil Crook, customer solutions manager at Thomas Hardie Commercials offers similar enthusiasm for Volvo’s electric trucks. “Without doubt this is one of the most exciting new truck orders I’ve ever taken!” he says. “Paul and the team at Fox Group recognise that the future is electric, and we can help them to start making that a reality for their business right now.”
