Clipper Logistics has been working with The Crown Estate to improve the delivery of goods to London’s Regent Street since 2008. The two businesses work together to consolidate individual delivery trips and reduce traffic congestion. The delivery consolidation initiative was said to be the first of its kind in London, and the full-electric Volta Zero will soon be part of the firms’ ongoing commitment to reducing emissions.

“The full-electric Volta Zero is specifically designed for zero-emission urban distribution with exactly The Crown Estate and Clipper Logistics’ use case in mind,” says Volta Trucks CEO Essa Al-Saleh. “And with 8.6 tonnes of payload, it was created to consolidate deliveries and reduce congestion of smaller vehicles on city centre streets.”

Famous Retailers Of London’s West End

The Crown Estate portfolio spans 10 million square feet and includes a wide selection of dining, retail, and leisure venues, as well as workplace and residential sectors. Deliveries to the Crown Estate’s Regent Street customers are sent to a consolidation centre outside of London’s congestion charge zone. And from that point, the deliveries are combined and dispatched. The Volta Zero’s job will be to deliver goods between the consolidation centre and the stores, and The Crown Estate will trial the truck beginning in summer 2022.

“This partnership is another important step towards reducing congestion, improving air quality, and making our streets safer and more accessible across the West End,” says The Crown Estate’s Judith Everett. “It will be a win-win for us and our customers, helping support their deliveries and our joint sustainability ambitions. It builds on our continued work to trial and test to see what works best for everyone using our streets, now and in the future.”

    The Volta Zero

Designed to reduce the environmental impact of urban freight deliveries, the Volta Zero has an operating range of 150 to 200 kilometres (95 to 125 miles). The 16-tonne (17.6-U.S.-ton) version of the Volta Zero boasts 8,600 kilograms (18,960 pounds) of payload capacity and 37.7 cubic metres (49.3 cubic yards) of load space. It has a rear axle capacity of 11 t (12 U.S. t) and a front axle rated at 5 t (5.5 U.S. t). The Zero’s top speed is 90 km/h (56 mph).
