DAF announced it has begun the extensive, final field test phase for its New Generation distribution trucks. DAF’s current distribution truck models are part of the LF series, and while the press release notes the New Generation distribution trucks will be unveiled in the second half of this year, no series or model names were included. The New Generation distribution trucks will be based on the design enhancements found on DAF’s New Generation XF, XG and XG+ heavy-duty long-haul trucks.
“With the game-changing XF, XG and XG+, DAF started the future of long and heavy haulage,” says DAF Executive Director of Product Development Ron Borsboom. “Now, we are on our way to start the future of regional and national distribution as well. Direct vision, seating position, ergonomics, fit and finish, it will all be of a new league, next to superior vehicle efficiency and ride and handling.”
Better Safety
The New Generation XF, XG, and XG+ trucks were the first models DAF developed with new European Masses & Dimensions regulations in mind. DAF says the new distribution truck series will take a similar design direction. The New Generation XF cab, for example, gives drivers Improved visibility though a combination of its wraparound windscreen and high seating position. In addition, DAF’s Digital Vision System replaces external mirrors with mounted screens.
Improved Fuel Efficiency
European Masses & Dimensions regulations also make fuel efficiency a priority. DAF’s totally redesigned New Generation XF, XG, and XG+ trucks provide fuel savings up to 10% thanks to new aerodynamics, mechanical upgrades, and technological enhancements.
