Renewi Becomes First In The Netherlands To Use DAF 6x2 CF Electric

It makes sense for a recycling company to care about sustainability, after all that is their purpose. Renewi Nederland, an international waste-to-product company, processes 14 million tonnes of waste each year through its network of over 165 sites throughout the Benelux region. Of the waste they collect, 89% is processed into raw materials or energy to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfills or incineration. To reduce its own ecological footprint and prepare for the introduction of environmental zones in city centres, the company recently acquired its first DAF 6x2 CF Electric with a Geesink rear loader system. The fully electric refuse collection vehicle is the first of its kind in use in the Netherlands and will see service in the Rotterdam region.

    About the FAN CF Electric

The CF Electric has an average driving range of 200 kilometres (124 miles) and will gain power through the regenerative braking system due to the low speed and frequent stops its route will involve. Renewi has charging intervals fully integrated into operation planning along with fixed charging points. The vehicle’s battery takes 75 minutes to charge at a 250-kilowatt charging station.

Renewi’s DAF FAN CF Electric has a modified short wheelbase to accommodate the rear loader superstructure and a net load capacity of 10,000 kilograms (22,050 pounds). The CF Electric is powered by a 350-kilowatt-hour battery and has a VDL electric motor that delivers 210 kW (240 kW peak power) and 2,000 newton-metres (1,475 pounds-foot) of torque. DAF also offers an optional e-PTO to power auxiliary equipment to eliminate the need for a separate power source for refrigeration and waste collection equipment.

"The DAF CF fits in with our logistics operation,” says Renewi Nederland Managing Director Marc Den Hartog. "Our collection process already involves a lot of driving so we are very interested in an electric version of the truck. It is an important step towards greater sustainability for our fleet and also allows us to fulfil our customers' wishes for sustainable services. More and more municipalities are requesting the use of electric vehicles for collections, as this provides a way to pursue a CO2 neutral solution. We expect to deploy more electric vehicles in the future."
