M B Wilkes Ltd Acquires New Flagship, A Renault C430 8x4 Off-Road Tipper

“We wanted a vehicle that really stands out and that drives awareness of M B Wilkes Ltd as a family business,” says Dave Fletcher, M B Wilkes Ltd commercial manager. (Photo courtesy of Renault.)

M B Wilkes’ tipper fleet operates across Dorset and beyond, offering muckaway and aggregate delivery services. With demand and staff growing, M B Wilkes decided it needed a new flagship vehicle to drive brand awareness and operate on the toughest terrain. Renault Trucks C430 filled the bill and marks the firm’s first-ever Renault Truck.

“Over the past 12 years we’ve been expanding the business, building up the fleet and increasing from eight staff to 43,” says M B Wilkes Ltd Commercial Manager Dave Fletcher. “We’ve been using a competitor’s vehicle for many years, but we liked the look of the C430 and its impressive cab. We’ve also heard good things about their performance, so we were convinced to give one a try.”

    Dressed To Impress

M B Wilkes vehicles are typically decked out in a yellow and blue livery, but to stand out, the firm requested a striking black and gold livery, complete with the M B Wilkes name emblazoned across the front and sides of the tipper truck.

“It’s certainly turning heads, and with the prominent branding it’s fantastic advertising for the business,” says Fletcher. The cab of the new C430 also features plenty of premium additions, including a heated driver’s seat, electric windscreen sunblind, and leather steering wheel. “The vehicle has been on the road for around three weeks and it’s been brilliant,” Fletcher says. “It’s not always straightforward introducing a new manufacturer into a fleet but the driver likes it, and it’s all good.”

    More On The C430

The firm spec’d the new truck with Renault’s Optidriver ATO 2612F automated gearbox that features an off-road mode that regulates speed based on the terrain. The Thompson’s tipper body benefits from the C430’s payload of up to 28.8 tonnes (31.7 U.S. tons), and Renault simplifies bodybuilder upfits by offering the C430 with pre-equipped features like power take-offs, corbels on the side frames, and a rear overhang to avoid cutting side members. Renault’s C-series trucks come with gross vehicle weights from 18 to 32 t (20 to 35 U.S. t), and gross combination weights from 28 to 100 t (31 to 110 U.S. t). The manufacturer also offers them with 13-litre diesel engines with power ratings from 380 to 520 horsepower (280 to 382 kilowatts).
