Man Truck & Bus has extended its long-running partnership with FC Bayern until 2024. A Lion's City E electric bus from Man recently drove the footballers to the Munich Airport, quietly and without emissions. This elicited comments such as, “Wow, it's quiet!" and "Fun and sustainable—perfect," from players and/or coaches.

The team also takes a Man Lion’s Coach to its home and away matches and, since summer 2021, a Man eTGE Combi electric minibus has transported staff and equipment to 1st Bundesliga matches in Munich, replacing an internal combustion model.

“The joy is now naturally particularly great that we have extended our long-standing partnership with Man by a further two years,” says FC Bayern Marketing Director Andy Jung.

    Changing City Transport

Man says that by 2025, half of its new city buses will be alternatively powered, and by 2030, 90% of its city buses will be battery-electric models.

"The feedback on our eBus has been excellent, and a look at the rising order intake also clearly shows that we can achieve these figures," says Man’s Head of Business Unit Bus, Rudi Kuchta. "But the goal is definitely also to start electrifying intercity buses and coaches as quickly as possible, depending on further market developments.”

    The Man Lion’s City E

Man Truck & Bus manufactures the Man Lion’s City bus in gas-powered, hybrid, and battery-electric configurations. The battery-electric Lion’s City E can drive more than 350 kilometres (217 miles) on a single charge under normal conditions, but has exceeded 550 km (342 mi) with an anticipatory driving style under ideal conditions in an Efficiency Run.

The Lion’s City E comes in a 41-seat solo version with one 322-horsepower (240-kilowatt) electric motor and a 480-kilowatt-hour battery, as well as a 45-seat articulated configuration with 429 HP (320 kW) from dual motors and 640 kWh of battery capacity.

    The Man eTGE Combi

Man’s eTGE electric minibus comes in several body options, including the Combi shuttle style used by FC Bayern. The zero-emission vehicle seats 8+1 and can drive up to 130 km (81 mi) on a charge in a best-case scenario. It regenerates battery power during coasting, extending its range. The eTGE has several AC and DC charging options and a navigation system that displays nearby recharging stations.
