Municipal vehicle hire company CTS Hire of Berkeley, Gloucestershire, recently purchased its second Renault Trucks E-Tech D Wide 26-tonne refuse collection vehicle (eRCV) to its fleet after the first proved enormously popular with their customers. The Renault electric trucks enable councils and vehicle operators to use eRCV technology for short-term hire. The E-Tech D Wide trucks can operate in urban areas that have air quality restrictions in place, including Low Emission Zones and Ultra Low Emission Zones, and they reduce noise pollution, as well. The E-Tech trucks were supplied by RH Commercial Vehicles.

“The second eRCV gives even more opportunity to showcase the advancement and reliability of the Renault Trucks E-Tech range,” says RH Commercial Vehicles Commercial Director Paul Pearson. “As our Nottingham depot is an official Renault Trucks EV service and repairing dealer, we can really become a leading supplier of electric vehicles.”

    Under The Hood

Renault’s E-Tech D Wide electric rear-steer chassis are paired with Dennis Eagle OL21 bodies and Terberg Xtra bin lifts, and are powered by four 66-kilowatt lithium batteries located in the wheelbase. The trucks have 22-kW on-board AC chargers and are compatible with DC fast charging up to 150 kW. The batteries can charge in less than two hours using DC or overnight with a conventional industrial outlet and have a range of up to 315 kilometres (195 miles). Each truck is equipped with a vision window in the lower section of the passenger door to provide a better view of pedestrians, cyclists, and others on the road. Two electric motors provide maximum power of 370 kW (500 horsepower) and maximum torque of 850 newton-metres (627 pounds-foot).

“This additional vehicle will give even more of our customers the opportunity to incorporate an electric refuse truck into their day-to-day operations for as long as they wish,” says CTS Hire MD Bob Sweetland. (Photo courtesy of Renault.)

“We are delighted to receive our second Renault Trucks E-Tech eRCV,” says CTS Hire Managing Director Bob Sweetland. “The first vehicle has proven popular with our customers. This additional vehicle will give even more of our customers the opportunity to incorporate an electric refuse truck into their day-to-day operations for as long as they wish, enabling them to carry out a more thorough evaluation of this new technology.”
