Schmitz Cargobull S.CS Fixed Roof Curtainsider Pulls More Than Its Weight For Uptons Transport Services

Birmingham-based dry freight specialist Uptons Transport Services recently acquired a new S.CS Fixed Roof curtainsider semitrailer, its first trailer from Schmitz Cargobull. The lightweight, modular curtainsider was chosen for its robust construction and optimal payload, and replaces a like-for-like trailer from a competing marque. The new trailer, which joins a fleet of 10 trailers and two Daf and two Renault tractor units, will operate up to six days a week, logging around 160,000 kilometres (99,420 miles) per year delivering dry freight for businesses across the UK.

S.CS Fixed Roof Construction & Features

The curtainsider is built on a modular chassis for increased strength and better weight distribution and is compliant with DIN EN 12642 Code XL load security regulations. The modular bolt-on, bolt-off design makes the trailer easy to repair and protects against corrosion. Two sliding posts and 18 buckles ease loading and unloading and the steel wires incorporated into the 1,800-millimetre (70.8-inch)-high curtain protect against intentional cutting for enhanced security. The S.CS Fixed Roof has a maximum payload of 32 tonnes (35.2 U.S. tons).

The trailer is equipped with a brake pad wear indicator that displays signals when a brake pad needs to be replaced at an early stage so it can be fixed before it becomes an emergency. The tyre pressure monitoring system alerts drivers when a tyre needs air and the tyre re-pressurisation system can automatically inflate the tyre to reduce wear and save fuel. The trailer’s elastic adhesive-bonded floors provide a watertight loading surface and protect freight from weathering from below. The S.CS Fixed Roof also has a water tank to provide fresh water for the driver.
