Ann-Martin International regularly carries fresh and frozen products across the Europe. In the past, the Walsall-based haulier had rented Schmitz Cargobull S.KO Cool trailers to transport cold food and pharmaceuticals, and the company decided to purchase one of Schmitz Cargobull’s box trailers equipped with an S.CU refrigeration unit to own a vehicle dedicated to the task.

“It’s a great piece of kit,” says owner-operator Martin Flanagan. “When I recently decided to move away from renting trailers, they [Schmitz Cargobull] were my go-to manufacturer.”

    Energy-Efficient Cooling

The S.CU cooling unit provides a number of features to enhance deliveries of the temperature-controlled products transported by Ann-Martin International. The quiet, lightweight cooling units produce precise temperature control using intelligent partial load control to minimise temperature fluctuations. When transporting pharmaceuticals and food goods requiring documentation, sensors in the S.CU cooling unit monitor and record data on the individual temperature zones in the trailer. The trailer’s box body boasts Schmitz Cargobull’s patented Ferroplast technology, which provides a vapour diffusion-tight surface to further improve energy efficiency and prevent the absorption of efficiency-decreasing moisture.

    Connected & Secure Transport

The new semitrailer offers the rugged design of Schmitz Cargobull’s Modulos galvanised and bolted chassis; the manufacturer says Modulos reduces trailer weight without compromising on strength and includes a modular system to enhance configuration of cold zones. To keep goods and pharmaceuticals safe, the trailer includes an electronic door locking system secured behind a PIN and controlled with the Schmitz Cargobull beSmart app. The same app also displays real-time fuel levels, tyre pressure, and other crucial data.

“The S.KO Cool is a great semitrailer,” Flanagan says. “It’s well-built and reliable and does everything we need it to do for our business, which involves transporting goods long distances around the UK and on the continent.”
