Plantforce Rentals Limited of Bristol recently added two Volvo FM rigid trucks and one FH tractor unit to its fleet after purchasing an FM model last year. “The arrival of Volvo trucks in our fleet last year marked a significant change in our transport operations,” says Sam Mercer, operations director at Plantforce Rentals. “In the past we outsourced our transport requirements, but the increasing fleet of Volvo vehicles is due to us bringing that policy back in-house. We've always seen own account operations as a loss, but the Volvos are cutting that deficit and delivering such good savings that we have further FH and FM models on order for delivery early next year.”

Both of the Volvo FMs are 8x2 rigids with single-tyre, tag-axle chassis, D11K Euro-6 engines that produce 410 horsepower, and I-Shift automated transmissions. They also feature Globetrotter cabs with One Bed Resting packages, RSS1356 drive axles, rear air suspension, and low-profile plant bodies from Andover Trailers. Plantforce opted for left turn alarms and 360-degree cameras as the company works to earn its FORS (Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme) Silver accreditation.

Plantforce’s FH model is a 6x2 single-tyre, tag-axle tractor with a Globetrotter cab, Jost JSK37 fifth wheel, rear air and front steel suspensions, and an RSS1360 single-reduction axle. It also has a 540-horsepower D13K Euro-6 engine, 12-speed I-Shift automated transmission, and Volvo’s optional Single Bed, Drive+, and Media packages. The truck will tow a three-axle low loader trailer from Faymonville. All three of Plantforce’s new trucks are backed by 36-month Volvo Gold Service contracts.
