Hiab has developed an augmented reality system called HiVision to help MULTILIFT hook loader drivers operate the hooklift more safely and effectively. While using the in-cab touchscreen display to manipulate containers with the hooklift, the user will see guidance and equipment info overlaid on video from three rear cameras set at different heights.

"We have combined our HiVision camera technology with the latest industry innovations to create HiVision for MULTILIFT," says Hiab Vice President for New Business Solutions, Jan-Erik Lindfors. “The new system offers the highest level of safety and control of all of our hooklifts.”

The company will show HiVision at the Transport-Logistics 2019 show from 9 to 11 May in Helsinki, Finland, along with the new MULTILIFT Ultima hooklift for which it was specially designed.

    Safer & Easier

The HiVision system can detect a container and offer advice to the driver on how best to back up to and lift it. It can also warn the driver about any obstacles in the way.

"In challenging environments, HiVision makes hooklift operation easier as the system guides the driver to hook up the container at the first attempt," says Hiab Vice President of Demountables, Jon Lopez. “We are very pleased to bring this more intuitive operation to the market, as there has been a strong interest for this in focus groups.”

HiVision also tells the operator whether the container is correctly loaded and locked into place. This helps to avoid unsafe conditions from an improperly secured load.

“HiVision makes hooklift operation easier, safer, and quicker, leading to less wear and tear of equipment, reducing the risk of accidents and increasing productivity,” Lindfors says.

    Ultima & More

The new MULTILIFT Ultima hook loader, which Hiab debuted last fall, has other features including HookliftAssist external cameras, SafePositioning container loading assistance, and Integrated Load Weighing features.

Hiab, part of Cargotec, also produces Moffett and Princeton truck-mounted forklifts, MULTILIFT skip loaders, and tail lifts branded Zepro, Del, and Waltco.

TruckLocator offers a vibrant selection of for-sale listings for quality used hook loaders and skip loaders.
