Apetito, a food supplier that serves schools, hospitals, businesses, and other clients, recently added six FH-500 tractor units to its fleet, which represent the first Volvo trucks purchased by the company. Apetito is based in Trowbridge, but these trucks will operate from the firm’s distribution centre in Portbury, Bristol. The company expects to put around 200,000 kilometers on the trucks each year and they are on a three-year fleet replacement schedule.
“All our vehicles operate out of Bristol, but they will go as far as Motherwell and many points in between,” says Jon Jackson, training, safety, and logistics manager at Apetito. “As such we undertook extensive research, including a three-week loan of an FH-500 for fuel benchmarking, before settling on Volvo.”
Specs & Support
Each of the 6x2 fixed pusher axle trucks features a Volvo D13K Euro-6 engine that produces 500 horsepower and 2,500 newton metres of torque, a 12-speed I-Shift automated transmission, and front steel, rear air suspensions, all on a 3,900-millimetre wheelbase. They also have Globetrotter XL cabs featuring leather trim, air conditioning, and foldable top bunks. Each truck is covered by a three-year Volvo Gold Service Contract for maximum uptime. “The Gold Service Contracts give us peace of mind,” says Jackson. “We supply food to some of the most vulnerable people in society; therefore the uptime promise gives us and our customers’ security with supply chains.”
